You may need to see a neurologist if your primary care provider thinks you have the symptoms of a neurological disorder. Your doctor will consult with a neurologist and, if appropriate, an appointment with a neurologist will be scheduled for you. More tests may be ordered as well.
Once the evaluation and testing is complete, your neurologist will discuss a treatment plan with you. Once your treatment plan is established and your symptoms have been controlled, you will return to your primary care physician for continued care. You may need to see your neurologist periodically to ensure your symptoms are in check and your care plan is continuing to work best for you.
Care for our patients is very individualized and done from a team-based approach. Your neurologist will work as the "team leader" to provide the latest in neurological care, but other members of your team may include:
- Physiatrists and Rehabilitation specialists (Mercy Physical Medicine & Rehabiliation)
- Neurosurgeons (Mercy Neurosurgery)
- Neuroscience nurses
