Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure in which fat deposits are removed from different parts of the body including thighs, arms, neck, hips, waist, buttocks, back, chest, cheeks, and inner knee. Please click below to learn more about Liposuction.

What is liposuction?

  • Removes fat deposits from different parts of the body including thighs, arms, neck, hips, waist, buttocks, back, chest, cheeks, inner knee
  • Goals:
    • Shape not weight: Improves the body contour and proportion
    • Enhance self-image and confidence
    • It can be performed alone or along with other plastic surgery techniques such as facelift, tummy tuck, or body-contouring after weight loss procedures

What liposuction will NOT do

  • It is not a weight loss technique
    • Even though the technique removes fat, the goal is to remove enough fat for improved contour and shape
  • It is not a treatment for obesity
  • It is not a substitute for proper diet and physical activity
  • It is not a treatment for cellulite – the dimpled skin that can appear on thighs, hips, and buttocks
  • It can improve the shape of areas containing cellulite, but it will not get rid of the cellulite skin

You may be a liposuction candidate if:

  • You have firm, elastic skin
  • You do not smoke
  • You are bothered by excess fat deposits that do not respond to diet or exercise. These can be located anywhere on your body
  • You have a positive outlook and have specific goals in mind

Procedure Overview

  • Performed under sedation or general anesthesia
  • Incisions – small, inconspicuous incisions located close to the area of interest
  • A wetting solution is infused into the area containing numbing medicine
  • Then a thin hollow tube, or cannula, is inserted through the incisions to loosen excess fat in a controlled, organized fashion
  • The dislodged fat is then suctioned out through the cannula
  • Results are usually obvious a few days after surgery since swelling and fluid retention occur immediately after surgery

Recovery

  • After surgery you will be taken to a recovery area to be closely monitored after surgery
  • You will wear an elastic bandage or compression garment to minimize swelling
  • You will need to wear the elastic band for the first 2-4 weeks
  • You will experience soreness for the first week, and decreased soreness over week’s 2 and 3.
    • Intermittent soreness can last for 4 weeks

What results should I expect?

  • Satisfaction with your new contour and body image should continue to grow and improve as you recover from surgery
  • Final results will be seen at about 3-4 months after surgery
  • Results will be long-lasting, if…
    • You maintain your weight
    • Keep a healthy lifestyle
  • Your skin will continue to age with your body
