Mercy offers sports and regenerative medicine services for all ages of patients with musculoskeletal pain and injury, at its Ankeny North Family Medicine clinic location. Services are provided by Trent Peterson, M.D.

Common Sports Medicine and Regenerative Medicine services:

  • Concussion management and return-to-play decisions
  • Pre-participation examinations
  • Non-surgical fracture management
  • Stress fracture management
  • Joint injections and peritendinous injections
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound
  • Exercise associated asthma or bronchospasm

  • Dry needling for chronic tendinosis and percutaneous needle tenotomy with or without autologous blood injection

 

Common diagnoses that benefit from sports and regenerative medicine treatment:

  • Neck: Neck pain/strain, cervical radiculopathy
  • Shoulder: Rotator cuff arthropathy, subacromial impingement, shoulder instability, labral injuries, shoulder osteoarthritis, Little league shoulder
  • Elbow: Lateral epicondylitis, Medial epicondylitis, Little league elbow, UCL partial tears and sprains
  • Wrist: Carpal tunnel syndrome, De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, osteoarthritis
  • Hip: Hip osteoarthritis, Iliopsoas tendinopathy and bursitis, snapping hip, femoral acetabular impingement, labral injuries
  • Back: SI joint dysfunction/pain, lumbar radiculopathy, back pain
