Mercy Cancer Center Radiation Oncology earns national accreditation

Wednesday, May 21, 2014

DES MOINES, Iowa— Mercy Cancer Center Radiation Oncology (MCCRO) has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The ACR seal of accreditation represents the highest level of quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting specific Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards developed by ACR after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field.

“This reaffirms that we are applying best practices to achieve the highest and safest level of care for our patients,” said Mercy Cancer Center Radiation Oncology Medical Director Dr. Philip Colletier. “I am also extremely proud of our staff. A cancer diagnosis is often overwhelming. Our staff provides compassion and healing by listening, talking and assuring each patient they will not make their cancer journey alone.”

MCCRO is currently the only Iowa-based radiation oncology practice to have submitted to this rigorous practice evaluation and been granted unconditional accreditation. The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists.
