Milkshake/Smoothie Recipes

General shake recipe

Yield one beverage
•    1 cup base (whole milk, reconstituted instant breakfast, yogurt, Greek yogurt, coconut milk, soy milk, rice milk, Boost Plus, Ensure Plus, half-and-half, evaporated milk, condensed milk, or non-dairy creamer)
•    ½-1 cup flavor addition (ice cream, sherbet, fruit, fruit juice, pie filling, canned pumpkin)
•    High calorie and/or protein additions (cooked white rice, bran cereal, protein powder, canola oil, peanut butter, uncooked oats, ground flaxseed, cottage cheese, wheat germ, avocado)
•    Banana or avocado to create a creamy consistency
•    Flavorings or additions to taste (vanilla, honey, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, powdered soft drink mix, chocolate syrup, instant pudding mix, powdered milk, cocoa mix, instant coffee granules, or rum food flavoring)

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend well.  Pour into tall, frosted glasses.  Use your favorite garnish (ie maraschino cherry, sprig of mint, whipping cream, or dash of nutmeg)


Instant Breakfast Hawaiian Float

12g protein, 315 calories
Yield one beverage
•    2 Tbsp orange-pineapple juice concentrate (undiluted)
•    ¼ pkg vanilla instant breakfast (about 1 Tbsp)
•    ¼ cup ice water
•    ½ cup evaporated whole milk
•    ¼ cup lime sherbet
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend well.


Orange Cooler Shake

15g protein, 365 calories
1/3 cup orange juice concentrate (diluted)
¾ cup powdered milk
1 cup ice water
½ cup vanilla ice cream
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend well.


Peach Shake

11g protein, 300 calories
1 canned peach half
3 Tbsp powdered milk
¼ cup ice water
½ pkg vanilla instant breakfast (about 2 Tbsp)
¼ cup vanilla ice cream
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend well.


Pineapple Lemon Shake

2g protein, 220 calories
½ cup pineapple juice
½ cup lemon sherbet
2 pineapple slices, chopped, drained
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend well.


Strawberry Banana Smoothie

10g protein, 280 calories
1 cup whole milk (or vanilla Ensure/Boost Plus)
1 banana
3 large strawberries (fresh or frozen)
1 tsp honey (optional)
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend well.
