Facing cancer as a patient, family member or caregiver can be very difficult. The Mercy Cancer Center staff is here when needed to provide a compassionate ear, knowledge to face your immediate challenges and hope to look toward the future. We provide counseling for you and your family to help sort through the emotional and psychological issues surrounding your cancer experience.
Mercy Cancer Center offers complimentary nurse navigator services to support and guide you and your family through your cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery. Our navigators are experienced oncology nurses who work with the entire Cancer Center team to provide you with the individualized services you need.
Nurse navigators can specifically help you by:
- Finding information so you can make informed decisions about your care;
- Answering specific questions about your diagnosis and treatment;
- Coordinating appointments with physicians and other care providers such as nutritional counselors or physical therapists.

The Mercy Cancer Resource Center offers access to the latest information about treatment choices, current literature on various cancers as well as availability to the Internet and its vast cancer resources. Our staff can help you find the information you need to better understand your disease.
CANCER-RELATED SUPPLIES AND PRODUCTS
Mercy Cancer Center has cancer-related items such as wigs, scarves, hats and turbans at reduced or no cost. We also sell Amoena and Camp breast prosthetics and bras, and have trained fitters on staff to assist you in a comfortable and private environment.
Financial counselors are available at Mercy to help patients understand financial obligations and resources related to cancer care. They are also available to help you apply for Medicaid, Medicare, or disability coverage. If these options are not available, the financial counselors can also help you seek community funds and explore funding options through State of Iowa programs.
