Reiki SessionReiki is a very powerful but gentle healing method in which hands are placed above areas of the body to balance energies and help soothe physical, emotional, mental and spiritual pain.

Reiki (ray-key) is a form of relaxation and healing developed by the Japanese in the 1800s and brought to the United States shortly after World War II. It affects the mind, body and spirit as energy is directed from one person to another.

During a session, the Reiki practitioner places his hands a few inches above different parts of the body allowing energy to flow into the participant’s body. This exchange of energy is said to help with relaxation, ease stress and redirect or relieve pain.

Each person brings something different to the table emotionally and physically, so each experience is different. However, tingling sensations, feelings of warmth and muscle contraction and relaxation are all common during a Reiki treatment.

Many patients utilize Reiki for stress, post-operation healing and TMJ (tension of the jaw). Reiki can be beneficial to colicky babies and to patients with more severe situations such as cancer and brain tumors. The process takes a little longer for patients with a severe illness, but Reiki typically is reported to begin working right away.

A Reiki session lasts approximately 70-80 minutes at a cost of $35 an hour.
