Education
Education is the key
Regular visits with your physician, the Diabetes Education Center staff, and contact with other people who have diabetes are resources you'll rely on to manage your diabetes. Educating yourself, your family members and/or friends about your diabetes is the starting point.
Our team of diabetes specialists provide instruction on:
- Understanding the basics of diabetes
- Self-blood monitoring
- Medication management: insulin and oral agents
- Appropriate exercise
- Proper nutrition
- Meal planning
- Preventing diabetes complications
- Motivating yourself to live well
- Healthy habits for your feet, skin and eyes
- Gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy)
- Managing diabetes in children
- Community resources
We offer a variety of classes including individual consultations or group sessions. Your physician determines which setting is best for you. Classes are offered in the morning, afternoon and evening to accommodate busy individuals. A physician referral and pre-registration is required.
For more information or to register for a class, please call the Diabetes Education Center at (515) 643-4895.
