2010 blood screening schedule announced

Mercy Clinics has announced the dates and locations for its 2010 Blood Profile Screenings.
All screenings are conducted at rotating Des Moines-area Dahl's Foods Stores between 7 and 8:30 a.m. Pre-registration is requested but not required. To register, please call Mercy Nurse at (515) 243-2584.
Screenings available include:
Blood Chemistry Profile ($30)
Comprehensive test that reports on the following:

Hs C-Reactive Protein ($30)
Hs-CRP is most often used to help predict a healthy person's risk of cardiovascular disease.
Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA)($30)
The total PSA test is ordered to screen both asymptomatic and symptomatic men for prostate cancer.
Thyroid Profile & Free T4 ($30)
These tests are used to screen for and help diagnose thyroid disorders and to monitor treatment of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.
Hemoglobin A1C ($20)
The A1C test is used primarily to monitor the glucose control of diabetics over time. The A1C test gives a picture of the average amount of glucose in the blood over the last few months.
Liver Enzymes (ALT and AST) ($15)
Test to look for enzymes that detect liver dysfunction. Many drugs may raise these enzyme levels by causing liver damage in a very small percentage of patients taking the drug.
Complete Blood Count ($15)
The CBC is used as a broad screening test to check for such disorders as anemia, infection, and many other diseases. It is actually a panel of tests that examines different parts of the blood such as WBC, Hemoglobin, Hematocrit, Platelets and others.
Participants are encouraged to fast 12 hours for more accurate results. Drinking water is encouraged. Test results are mailed to participants approximately 10 business days following the screening.
