Continuing Medical Education for Medical Professionals

Saturday, October 25, 2008
Polk County Convention Complex
7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
There continues to be a growing incidence and prevalence of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes in the United States and around the world. Despite significant advances, the vast majority of people with
diabetes have inadequate glycemic control.
The goal of this course is to educate providers about the most effective strategies to help their patients with diabetes reach their treatment goals and avoid the associated acute and chronic complications. This course will focus on four cutting edge topics in diabetes care: insulin regimens for people with type 2 diabetes; insulin pump therapy for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes; incretin mimetics for treating type 2 diabetes; and new evidence-based motivational strategies to improve patient self-management. This information will be clinically oriented with presentation of current and important landmark clinical trials.
In addition, this course will offer a truly unique learning opportunity. It is being held in tandem with a separate, yet similar, patient education conference (TCOYD) and will give providers the opportunity to observe
and interact with people who have diabetes and are engaged in their own intensive educational environment. Making that connection with patients, providers will acquire new skills and insight into what empowers patients with diabetes to develop healthy self-management of their diabetes.
