Important Conference about Ovarian Cancer Offered Sept. 16

Ovarian cancer used to be referred to as “the silent killer” because symptoms were not thought to develop until the disease was quite advanced.  Recent studies show, however, that this is not actually true.

Learn more about ovarian cancer at “Break the Silence,” Mercy Cancer Center’s 5th Annual Ovarian Cancer Conference on Thursday, Sept.16, 2010, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the East Tower Auditorium at Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines.

This one-day seminar is designed to explore current treatments and issues involving ovarian cancer and is geared toward health care professionals and individuals interested in the care and treatment of women following a diagnosis of ovarian cancer.  CEUs will be provided for health care providers, and ovarian cancer survivors are encouraged to attend.

Among the speakers for the day-long event are Drs. Deborah Turner and Jay Carlson of Mercy Cancer Center Gynecologic Oncology and Dr. Sarah Adams, who is currently assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital in the Ovarian Cancer Research Center, University of Pennsylvania.

The fee for the program is $65 for health care professionals with CEUs and $35 for the general public. The cost includes tuition, conference materials, lunch and refreshments. Attendees are also encouraged to visit vendors with product and informational displays, from 7:30 to 3:30 p.m. in Conference Room #6 in the East Tower Conference Center.

Registration for the program is encouraged by Sept. 8 by calling the Mercy Cancer Center at (515) 643-8206.
