From the time you enter the Mercy Family Medicine Residency Program, you will enjoy hands-on learning experiences as you work directly with the medical specialists who are on staff at Mercy.
Curriculum - Start July 1, 2012
There will be 13, four-week blocks
First-Year Rotations
- 12 weeks Family Practice/Internal Medicine
- 8 weeks OB
- 4 weeks IP Surgery
- 4 weeks ED
- 8 weeks Peds IP
- 4 weeks Peds OP
- 2 weeks Newborn Nursery
- 2 weeks Community medicine
- 4 weeks Cardiology
- 4 weeks Orientation
First-Year Clinic
One (1) half-day for six months, then two (2) half-days final six months
Second-Year Rotations
- 4 weeks ICU
- 2 weeks Community medicine
- 2 weeks Peds IP
- 4 weeks Psych
- 8 weeks FP/IM
- 4 weeks Neurology
- 4 weeks Gynecology
- 4 weeks Peds ED
- 4 weeks Gastroenterology
- 2 weeks Billing & Coding
- 4 weeks Family Medicine clinic
- 2 weeks Orientation supervisor
- 8 weeks electives
Second-Year Clinic
Two (2) half-days for six months, then three (3) half-days final six months
Third-Year Rotations
- 4 weeks Sports medicine
- 4 weeks Dermatology
- 2 weeks Urology
- 2 weeks Ophthalmology
- 2 weeks ENT
- 2 weeks Peds IP
- 4 weeks FP/IM w/night float
- 4 weeks FP/IM w/o night float (morning only, clinic pm)
- 4 weeks FM clinic
- 4 weeks Surgery OP
- 4 weeks Orthopedics
- 2 weeks Practice management
- 2 weeks Orientation supervisor
- 10 weeks electives
Third-Year Clinic
Three (3) half-days for six months, then four (4) half-days final six months
Geriatrics
Nursing home rounds are held on a monthly basis.
