About Mercy

Tobacco-free Campus

Mercy Medical Center is officially a tobacco-free campus. This means that employees, patients and visitors are prohibited from smoking or chewing tobacco in any Mercy-owned or maintained property — including facilities, grounds, parking areas and sidewalks.

If you are interested in obtaining support to help stop using tobacco, call Quitline Iowa (a toll-free smoking cessation counseling hotline) at 1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669) or visit their Web site at www.quitlineiowa.org.

Patients who smoke or use tobacco products are encouraged to ask their physician to order nicotine gum or other nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). NRT helps curb cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Counselors are also available. Ask your nurse to contact Pulmonary Rehabilitation if you would like to speak to someone.

Visitors who smoke or use tobacco products may request a free Care Kit from one of the nursing units or purchase nicotine gum in the Outpatient Pharmacy.
