Dale Andres, D.O., appointed Mercy Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs

Dr. Dale AndresMercy Medical Center – Des Moines is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Dale Andres to the position of senior vice president of Medical Affairs effective Feb.1. Dr Andres has been serving in this position on an interim basis since April of 2008.

In this role Dr. Andres will oversee Mercy’s Medical Staff governance and leadership, as well as clinical quality initiatives, patient safety and physician medical education efforts. He will also have responsibility for oversight of Mercy’s compliance efforts on the state and federal level as well as supervise the Mercy Family Medicine Residency and Geriatric Fellowship programs and Surgical Residency program. Dr. Andres will also continue in his role as chief pathologist and medical director of Mercy Clinical Laboratories.

Dr. Andres joined Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines in 2005 after 16 years as chief of Pathology at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa in Mason City. Dr. Andres also served as the senior vice president of physician integration at Mercy North Iowa. Dr. Andres serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for Des Moines University and is the chairman of the medical school’s Pathology department. He was honored in 2005 as the Physician of the Year by the Iowa Osteopathic Medical Society for his commitment to his profession, patients and colleagues. Dr. Andres served in the U.S. Army and retired as a Brigadier General.
