Mercy Sleep Center Facility to Help Put Sleep Problems to Rest

Restful sleep is essential to everyone, yet millions of Americans go through each day wondering why they can’t stay awake; millions more go to bed each night wondering why they can’t sleep. “Recent research has identified how vital sleep is to day-to day living,” said Donald Burrows, M.D., medical director of the Mercy Sleep Center. Sleep disorders are medical conditions that can affect more than just your mornings – diabetes, obesity and some heart problems all have links to sleep disorders.
Mercy is central Iowa’s leader in sleep medicine— opening the first sleep center facility in 1984 on Mercy’s downtown campus. To accommodate today’s growing number of patients seeking, and being referred by their primary care physicians for sleep studies and treatment, the fully accredited Mercy Sleep Center has opened a replacement facility at 1449 NW 128th St., in Clive. The sleep center includes 20 private sleep study suites equipped with the latest technology to track and monitor a sleeping patient’s breathing, heart rate, brain waves, eye movements and any physical activity.
“The study of sleep is a highly scientific and rapidly evolving field of medicine,” says Mercy Sleep Center Medical Director Dr. Donald Burrows. “We are finding more relationships between sleep and potentially serious health conditions.”
The Mercy Sleep Center has been seeing patients at its replacement location since Dec. 15. To better serve patients of the Sleep Center, Mercy Home Medical Supply has opened a satellite location on the second floor of the Sleep Center building. This convenient location allows patients to rent or purchase equipment used to treat sleep disorders at one location.
