  Hip replacement is a surgical procedure that involves
  removing a worn, diseased or damaged hip joint and
  replacing it with an artificial joint, called a prosthesis.
  The artificial joint is composed of a ball and socket
  component made of metal and plastic or ceramic.

Hip replacement surgery may be considered when
arthritis limits everyday activities, such as walking and
bending.

Shoulder replacement

Shoulder replacement is a surgical procedure that involves removing all or part of a worn, diseased or damaged shoulder joint and replacing it with an artificial joint, called a prosthesis.

Shoulder replacement is an option for patients who suffer from joint dysfunction due to osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or severe trauma, such as a shoulder fracture. It may be recommended for patients have have the following symptoms:

• stiffness in the shoulder that limits use of the arm
