Mercy Ruan Neuroscience Center is central Iowa’s leading provider of neurological and neurosurgical care. Our team provides inpatient and outpatient treatment, as well as patient education and resources.
Our comprehensive care includes a Ruan Neurology Clinic, inpatient care for hospitalized patients and neurosurgery. The clinic's highly trained and experienced staff works with patients who have neurological disorders including stroke, dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s/movement disorders, seizure disorders, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and headache/migraine. Our neuroscience nurses provide patient education, along with community education, awareness programs and are involved with numerous research trials.
In addition to the clinic, Mercy Neurosurgery, provides complete neurosurgical care for patients of all ages--from newborns to older adults. Mercy Neurosurgery is one of a very few locations in central Iowa that provides surgical treatment for pediatric patients.
Mercy Medical Center-Des Moines is central Iowa's only hospital to receive the Gold Seal of Approval™ and Primary Stroke Center certification from The Joint Commission, the nation’s predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. Mercy has held this distinguished honor since 2007.
The Joint Commission’s comprehensive accreditation process evaluates an organization’s compliance with these standards and other accreditation requirements. Joint Commission accreditation is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards.
