Graduates of the Mercy School of Clinical Laboratory Science and Technology are granted a certificate and are eligible to take two board exams:

  • The Medical Technologist (MT) exam offered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
  • The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) exam offered by the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel, Inc.

Students must successfully complete at least one of the examinations to be certified to work in a clinical laboratory.

There is currently a shortage of Clinical Laboratory Scientists/Medical Technologists, and they are in demand across the country. Graduates of the Mercy School of Clinical Laboratory Science and Technology will find career opportunities in hospitals, independent clinical laboratories, blood centers, industry, universities, government laboratories, research facilities and others.
