On September 17, 2025, MercyOne Newton Iowa, a member of Trinity Health, was informed of a data security incident involving our business associate, Sofie Biosciences. Sofie Biosciences recently identified unauthorized activity that resulted in the deletion of information. The information provided by Sofie Biosciences does not include enough details to confirm individual identities.

What Happened?

On July 25, 2025, Sofie Biosciences detected suspicious activity. An investigation confirmed that an unauthorized individual deleted information contained in a database. No other systems or data were impacted. Sofie completed its review on August 18, 2025, and determined that certain patients affiliated with MercyOne Newton Iowa may have been impacted.

What Information Was Involved?

The information was limited to patient name and treatment location only. The vendor estimates that this data was created between 2023-2025.

What We Are Doing

Sofie Biosciences secured the environment, engaged third-party forensic specialists, and notified federal law enforcement. They have also enhanced cybersecurity measures and implemented additional safeguards to prevent similar incidents.
