Thank you for your interest in our Cardiology Fellowship Program. We’re excited to share what makes our program a unique and rewarding opportunity for aspiring cardiologists.

Program Overview

Established in 1989, our fellowship began as an AOA-accredited program and received ACGME accreditation in July 2017. We are proud to offer a robust, community-based training experience at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.

About MercyOne North Iowa

MercyOne North Iowa is a regional referral center with:

  • Over 200 acute care beds
  • Approximately 33,000 emergency room visits annually
  • Around 11,500 inpatient discharges per year
  • Nearly 450,000 outpatient and observation visits annually

Our Department of Cardiology, staffed by expert physicians from the Mason City Clinic, serves as the core faculty for the fellowship.

Clinical Training

Fellows gain extensive hands-on experience in:

  • Cardiac medical stepdown unit
  • Cardiovascular recovery unit
  • Cardiac catheterization laboratory
  • Outpatient clinics and inpatient consultations

Upon completion of the program, fellows are qualified to perform:

  • Diagnostic Angiography
  • Pacemaker implantation
  • Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE)
  • Transthoracic echocardiography
  • Nuclear stress testing

This training also supports MercyOne North Iowa’s commitment to addressing the physician shortage in Northern Iowa, ensuring high-quality cardiovascular care for our community.
